We
saw the preview full live show last Thursday, which is the first you
had done with the full live band. Do you or did you get nervous about
this first outing?
I was on a high and it was great, but I was
very nervous, and didn't stand on stage all the time as I was wrapped
up in the fact that I had never sung live before, but I think as a
first show it was a pretty great effort. There are some things to
refine and to work on, but there was always going to be, but that
was our first ever-live show!
You seemed to have some extremely talented
musicians on stage, how did that all come about?
The bass player, the keyboard player, and the
drummer were all in a band in the US, and were referred to me by our
American management. They worked on the live show, coming up with
some great ideas, and Rich the guitarist we got from 80s Matchbox
B-Line Disaster.
Last time I saw you - you were working with
a lot of UK artists, what happened to those tracks because they don't
seem to have made it on the album?
Yeah we've got about 17 tracks to finish off
from the sessions, if we have time!
You're doing a lot of live shows this year,
and with all the collaborations you have done, can we expect to see
anyone coming onstage with you?
Well we've got Gavin Clark with us, and Ian
Astbury's going to do a few things. When we're in America Josh might
be around, the problem with this is everybody has their own things
to do, so it just depends... the problem with a situation like this
is that everybody has got their own things going on
You're working with Rob Del Naja (3D) again,
this time on the artwork as well as doing a track on the album. The
artwork on the sleeve notes really seems to tell a story, and is quite
dark in its content. How did that happen, did you brief him?
No we just talked about things, ideas, references.
He just painted some pieces and we chose some of the work, although
we did put it in the one colour way, many of the original pieces weren't
in those colours. It was my idea to do it as a red and black thing,
and Ben (Drury) rendered those images. We all shot a few things in
LA and Joshua Tree, and they were bought into the make up too.
