Retail.
Firmabonn, Stuttgart
Usually,
Beinghunted reports on new artists, new shows, new projects, new shops
(or new stock), new sneakers, stuff that's about to happen, or ventures
that have just started out. Sometimes, we hear back from people - they
update us on how they've progressed and what new things they are planning.
It's always great to see, that things do work out and that good concepts
find appreciation and support.
With this post, it's the first time that we're not saying 'Welcome' but 'Good-bye'
- to one of the most creative and influential retail spaces in Germany - Firmabonn
in Stuttgart which has just closed its doors. Firmabonn was the place to find
your rare sneakers without the hectic and madness that has spread amongst so
many retailers in the past few months. Besides sneakers, Firmabonn had also brought
to Germany a great number of new clothing lines that would have never seen the
light of day there, otherwise. Toys - sure, they had them, too. Firmabonn never
slept on anything fresh in the business...
We could lead a long discussion about the 'whys' and 'why nots' - but the store
is gone, and that's a fact. Apart from all those sneakers, t-shirts, toys, etc.
we shouldn't forget about the people behind this all! We think it's time to say
a big THANKS! to them for their hard work over such a long time and to wish them
all the best for what's coming!

Event. James
Jarvis vs. Toy Tokyo
We
love King Ken and the design of this flyer. Instead of just posting
it in the calendar section, we decided to put it as
our cover image for today. People in NYC - grab your Martins, Evil
Martins, Policemen, Keith's, books, etc. etc. and head over to
Toy Tokyo on Feb. 13th, to have all that stuff signed. Poor James...
Check STRANGEco's site - they are co-sponsoring the event and have
more info. Warning for the weak - don't go to Toy Tokyo if you're
motto is: 'no more toys'.

Classics. adidas
adidas has some highlights lined up for the spring. Shoes, that some
of the older readers might still remember from the days when they had
to ask their parents to spend that extra $50 to get them a pair of El
Dorados, Broughams, or Fleetwoods instead of those no-name-ugly-pieces-of-trash.
The colors are subtle, yet carefully chosen, maybe something
for the more mature, non-camping sneaker afficionados?

Printed
Matter. Will Bankhead: Futura
Will Bankhead needs no introduction (if you need one, go looking for some of
the best cover art to be found in your record store), neither does Futura. Had
you purchased the ltd. Unkle Never Neverland CD/DVD, you would have had a chance
to see Futura in action, creating the artwork for that album. Will has captured
a moment of this process, created a run of 50 prints (A1 inkjet prints on heavy
weight matt paper), signed them, and now offers them to you via the link below.
20 are already gone. Be quick.

Matter. Refill
Magazine #2
With the post on Refill magazine's first issue, we probably generated the highest
rate of feedback-email per hour, just until our latest feature on Made Magazine.
Now, the race is on between Canada and Australia where the second issue of Refill
is just about to enter the arena - with two combatants... Will they be able to
tackle Made? We believe it's going to be a draw - so you should definitely bet/spend
your money on Refill and Made.

Heavy
Art can inspire
music; music inspires art. alife, in association with Neverstop,
built on this intersection and produced “Heavy”. The two-volume
book presents classic album covers redesigned by some top-rate artists.
Each volume includes a vinyl record with a selection of original pieces
by rising bands (some tracks exclusively made for Heavy). Writer Griffin
Creech rounds out the sensory encounter with a piece of fiction depicting
Rock ‘n Roll at its best. Get Heavy at alife, Colette, Maharishi,

Retail.
Slam Jam
Beinghunted
started as a forum about hard to find items. The intention was to give
information on how to acquire the things that usually were impossible
to get. Even more so when one had to rely on sources that were already
one month behind at their publishing date...
Over the years, it has become
so easy, too easy maybe, to 'surf' to an online shop and order a
t-shirt by a label that, before, you had to cover a lot
of miles for in order to get it (and then you ended up buying a lime
green one,
size XS). With this development, the term hunting' has lost some
of its true sense. Yes, people are still hunting, but now it's more a
matter of $$$ that they are willing to spend buying through auction
sites.
From our own experiences, we can tell you that sure, it takes more energy and
efforts to travel and to get hook-ups in various countries, but finding that
one jacket, hat, or vintage pair of sneakers yourself, in a shop, is so much
more rewarding than the easy ways described above.
If, however, you don't have the means or possibilities to go on a hunt in real
life, we suggest that you stop by Slam Jam's new online store. Their items would
have you go a long way. So, if you shop online - shop there. They have a selection
of excellent goods that you won't find anywhere else in Europe (online)! One
tiny detail that we have to mention, though: the site is in Italian. At least
it's not that easy. But don't forget to catch some fresh air from time to time!

sole box
Berlin
is slowly recovering from the past four days that were dominated by the
Bread & Butter and Premium trade shows. For many people it was more
the events that were happening alongside, than the show itself: Thursday
saw the opening of Geoff McFetridge's art show 'The Mind Trip: There & Back & New
Works' at Nike Spiritroom and right after that the crowds were sweating
at adidas' massive party madness...
But there was more than just parties - like this store opening in Berlin/Prenzlauer
Berg. Sole box is a new retail space by the people who are responsible for one
of the city's best vintage sneaker specialty store, Trainer. sole box is their
new venture and a true highlight regarding the overall concept, store interior,
and merchandise.
It doesn't have to be expensive furniture, lightning, or technoid displays that
make a store stand out from the competition. In the case of sole box it's the
simplicity and the idea that was carried out thoroughly. Using cardboard boxes
and structures for everything - not to forget the excellent artwork applied to
the surfaces - makes this place unique and original. 'Fine, a good concept but
what about the stock?' is what you might be asking yourself now. See our slides
and you'll find your answer. However, we heard that a group of Japanese sneaker
heads were clearing out the store on Friday...

Footwear.
Visvim FBT Bison
To
be honest now, is there anything exciting going on in the sneaker business
at this point in time? Retro models, anyone? The hundredst
colorway of a shoe that we own more than a dozen pairs of, already?
Sure, there are some sneakers that we really loved to see coming back
- especially the adidas Decades and the Nike Huarache Lights, but...
It's about time now, that we went looking for some fresh footwear concepts. Our
first steps in this new direction lead us to Japan. Visvim has been producing
high-quality shoes for some time now, and the FBT is one of their most popular
models to date. It has seen many collaborations (Undercover/EC) and many variations
(Elk, Coyote). Their latest set, the Bison, is our favourite: it features soft
suede leather with cowhide details. Apart from the FBT, the Polke, the Polke
low, and the Paik are also experiencing great success. Such big success that
one big sneaker company is just about to follow suit (hint: HTM Zoom Macropus)
with this shoe concept. Is that good or bad? You decide for yourself.

Matter. Relax #84
Not too much to say about this month's Relax. It contains a lot of
photography, stories on Bees/Honey, Good Neighbors in San Francisco,
Yann Tomita's Beat Zen archive, a photo story on a family - mother and
two kids, the travelogue, prints by Fumio Tachibana, and 'A film by
Mike Mills'. If you're a fan of Relax - go buy it. For you others -
it could be too obscure.

Art & Garments.
Answer x Vaughn Bodé
When you read a post on BGHD we always suggest that you act very
quickly if there's something you 'should' buy. We've had the information
on the new Answer x Vaughn Bodé shirts since before the holidays,
but waited for everything to be 100% safe and secure. This, however,
means that you would now need to be a little quicker than usual,
if you like what you see, as those pieces won't last long in the
shops.
Answer have followed up on the great success with their line of Vaughn
Bodé shirts - the last series being a double name with A Bathing
Ape. Have they saved the best for last? Ever since Dondi's whole
car in Subway Art Dicky Doo has been our most favourite Bodé character.
Thus we are very happy to finally see it on a 'legit' shirt. So for
us this is the best, but if those are the last Bodé shirts
to come out... we don't know (yet).
Info: 100 pcs. per colourway. More info on availability later on.
Special surprise is in the making...

Tokyo.
Dunk raffle
After the madness in NYC, LA. SF, and numerous other cities in the
US, Nike (Dunk) afficionados can now be found waiting in line to
get one of the 10.000 raffle tickets for the Tokyo Dunk (at AD21).
Only 202 will be sold - so chances are rather 'slight' that you might
get them. What we propose is this: take 9.999 of your closest friends
with you to TYO, to get a ticket. With the profits from reselling,
you'll get the money back for the air fares plus some extra $$$.
Or could we be wrong with our calculation, or could you be too late
(raffle started on the 5th).
