Party.
Refuse!1515 & beinghunted at APT
On the 31st, Refuse!1515 and beinghunted teamed up for a Halloween
party at NYC's APT in the meat packing district. Ben and James played
all their mixing tricks at the turntables to heat the crowd and to
pave the way for Dexter - who rocked that place to the extreme. If
you couldn't go - here are a few pics of the event that you shouldn't
have missed.

Another 48hrs
Ok, it's been more than 48 - we squeezed a few hours of Philly in
between. Back in the city we visited Number (N)ine from Japan on 431
Washington Street. The pieces are a bit pricey but the quality is
unbeatable. We met with Kenzo Minami who has been working for Nike,
Gigolo Records, and Panoptic, among others - watch this space for
our upcoming feature. Of course we had to take a look at the line
in front of Supreme which started at 9 am. Eric Elms was on our list
to end the day. His portfolio includes work for Adorn, SSUR, aNYthing,
and Supreme. We're looking forward to seeing his new line 'Priceless".

NYC.
48hrs in the City
You might have noticed the lack of posts in the past few days--that
was because we were roaming Manhattan to pick up a couple of bits
and pieces for BGHD. We revisited RMG's 'Worlds within Worlds' exhibition
at Deitch Projects, went to see Andrew Pommier's work at the 55DSL
flagship store, partied with the Premium Goods crew a the Ewok 5MH
opening (some neck breakers present), met with Kai, Bronwyn, and Jacqui
at Bronwyn's gallery, visited Zakka and snapped some pics of Yukinori
Dehara's toys, and were given the studio tour by Ryan McGinness himself.
Did we do any shop-visits? Of course - here's the list: Supreme (Dunks
will be on sale Oct. 30th), Stüssy & Headporter (Kaws artwork
& Customade Nº2, 3, and 4 Tees), Classic Kicks, Vice, adidas
(kids have been camping out in front of the store for the Skates every
day from 3pm), alife, Nort235, Recon (new BAPE hats and sweaters),
Stackhouse, Kid Robot, 360 Toy Group (due to re-open on Nov. 1st with
a special treat...), and Rivington Club. More to come. We'll also
post more pics soon.

This exhibition has been running since October 3rd, so it's not 'super

that we decided to put it up for your viewing pleasure. We hope you
have time to drop by the show at Royal Cheese in Paris. The name speaks
for itself.

Denim.
One True Saxon - Indigo Farm
What you see above is the highest quality or most exclusive piece
of (new) denim that we've heard about recently. Here is some background
info. Indigo Farm, based in the Shen Zen area of southern China, are
experts in the production of high(est) quality denim.
The denim used to produce these special jeans is imported by Indigo
Farm from the Okayama district in Japan (Kuroki Co., LTD to be precise).
It is then hand dyed with 'dyers knotweed' (that's the name of a special
indigo plant) to produce the only indigo yarn with a white center.
Due to the excessive heat during this process, the dye is fixed to
the fibre in such a way that it will last longer than regular indigo.
Another side effect of this method is, that these jeans will never
shrink.
You see that denim is a subject that one could spend hours on discussing.
At beinghunted.com we like to tell you the stories behind some of
the products out there, so that you understand why quality has it's
price. By the way. Only 100 pcs of these jeans are made. And only
10 will find a new home through ONETrue Saxon's online shop.

Book.
The Art of Rebellion
The Art of Rebellion is a new book about what people like to call
'street art'. If you only think 'graffiti' now, you're missing out
on a wide variety of forms that people are expressing their ideas
through, today: stickers, stencils, mosaics, small installations,
posters, etc.. This new book by Munich based (cheers!) graphic designer
Christian Hundertmark offers a cross-section of this art movement
by showing examples from all over the globe, by letting the artists
speak out about their art, by telling background stories and anecdotes.
This book is full of excellent photography - and then all those names...!
Good job.

Magazines.
lil' Tyler & relax #81
One is our favourite monthly magazine from Japan, the other is a special
edition glossy sneaker magazine from France. One has cover art by
GM, the other and old man wearing Nike Forces. Relax has a huge feature
on the Wild Bunch while lil' Tyler is a huge feature on the subject
of sneakers in itself. Both magazines give us the impression that
the people behind them truely love what they are doing. So much energy
and love for detail went into these issues - you have to acknowledge
that. If only there wasn't that issue with the languages... But both
magazines are packed with photos and illustrations - maybe you don't
even need to read.

Alena MTL - The Broken Deck Show
We reported on the Alena MTL Broken Deck show. It took us a while
but finally we got the pics formatted - so here they are. This is
from the opening night which was also the closing night since the
whole gig was only for one evening. Bad, you might think. Not really,
because Alena just uploaded the Broken Deck mini site with all the
decks for you to see and purchase. Maybe you'll find something familiar...!

Ryan McGinness at Deitch Projects
Ryan McGinness likes to play with the viewers perception. This theory
is taken to the next level at the current show at Deitch Projects
in Soho. He has been at work on these pieces since last spring, marking
an evident evolution of his style. Bright field backgrounds with multi-colored
signature shapes atop. A layering effect, of shape on shape and story
on story imbues the pieces with a new level of sophistication. Also
remarkable is a maze of mirrors installed in one of the rooms. As
one enters, they first feel curious. Etched on the mirrored panels
are shapes and human forms. The multi-reflected images paired with
the self-reflections soon start to disconcert the viewer. By the end
of the maze, one finds himself ready to re-enter the comfort of the
"real" world. On view until Nov 1st.

Toys.
Sony Time Capsule Toys
Will October be our 'toy month'? We'll see what's coming next - after
these: the new Sony Time Capsule Toys... Who - or what - is in them
this time? Three Names: Dalek, Biskup, and Baseman. And you can tell
that Sony is not aiming at the average toy collector. You have to
have a sense for the art that these people are producing to understand
where these figures are coming from. But that's good. You can tell
that this way it is not just about making a quick buck by commissioning
some gimmicky toy with a logo on it. We'd love to see more of those! |

Maharishi Identifiers Series 1
Finally, they are here - or almost. But it's only just a matter of
hours now. even if you have successfully avoided kubricks in the past,
there is no way around these. the first set in the identifiers series
includes 6 figures with different camouflage prints. among those -
tiger stripe, futura splinter, bonsai forest, and desert hex. some
of these patterns you might have already seen on maharishi clothing
but on these little fellas (think of the scale!) they are even more
fascinating to look at. a note at the side - yes, these should stand
like that. on the head. |
